Research Information

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol is what allows a vial to be entered more than once without the contamination risk of plain sterile water, which is why it is the default diluent on most benchtop reconstitution protocols.

Draw the volume your protocol calls for, run it slowly down the inner wall of the lyophilised vial rather than directly onto the powder, and swirl until dissolved instead of shaking. Record the volume used — concentration errors at this step are the most common source of inconsistent assay results.

Available in 3 ml and 10 ml vials. Store at room temperature, away from light.
